HOW I MANAGE MY TIME AS A NURSING STUDENT

Starting nursing school has been both exciting and overwhelming. As a first-year student, I quickly realized that balancing lectures, return demonstration, studying, and assignments requires good time management. At first, I struggled to keep up, but I soon learned that planning ahead makes a huge difference. Every week, I write down my schedule, including class times, return demonstration, and deadlines. This helps me stay organized and prevents me from feeling overwhelmed by last-minute tasks. Having a clear plan allows me to focus on what needs to be done each day.

Prioritizing tasks has also been essential in managing my workload. Not all assignments and study topics require the same level of attention, so I rank them based on deadlines and importance. If I have an exam coming up, I dedicate extra time to studying, while smaller tasks, like discussion posts, are completed quickly. I also use time blocks to stay focused—studying for an hour, taking a break, and then moving on to another task. This method keeps me productive and prevents burnout.

Despite the heavy workload, I have learned the importance of self-care. At first, I thought I needed to study every free moment, but I soon realized that taking breaks helps me stay motivated. Whether it’s watching a show, going for a walk, or spending time with friends, these small moments allow me to recharge. Nursing school is challenging, but I know that taking care of myself is just as important as keeping up with my studies.

Even with careful planning, unexpected challenges arise, so I remind myself to stay flexible. Some days are more exhausting than others, and sometimes assignments take longer than expected. Instead of stressing, I adjust my schedule and focus on doing my best. Managing my time as a first-year nursing student is still a learning process, but by staying organized, prioritizing my tasks, and making time for self-care, I am finding a balance that works for me.
